What would you like to be called?
Lana, please.

Where do you hail from?
I'll keep that a secret.

What age are you?

Which is your favourite book?
Assassin's Quest.

How did you find out about the books?
Ferreting around in Barnes & Nobles' fantasy/scifi section on a rainy afternoon. I picked up Assassin's Apprentice and thought the synopsis seemed interesting. I started reading and got hooked.

What made you love the books?
The characters were so well written as to make me feel like I not only cared about them and their fates, but also like I knew them as real people. I crave that sense of connection with characters, and it was in abundance in the Realm of Elderling books.

What's the most memorable part of the books for you, and why?
Probably the part in Fool's Errand where the Fool rides up to Fitz's door and he recognizes him... It just really struck a chord with me. The simple recognition of someone you love, no matter how changed they might be, is just so raw emotionally. Hobb wrote it brilliantly.

Was there any part of the books that you yawned your way through?
The beginning of Assassin's Quest, even though it's my favorite of the books, was somewhat tedious for me, while Fitz is going from being a "wolf" back to being a man.

Which bits kept those pages turning and turning?
The beauty and depth of the story. It was just a joy to read and I barely noticed that I even was reading, as I was so immersed in the story and characters.

Who is your favourite pairing?
The Fitz and the Fool, of course.

Who is you favourite character and why?
Kettricken, and the Fool. Kettricken is the best example of a strong woman I've ever seen in fantasy. She's intelligent, loving, and honest. She's the sort of character I would love to know in real life. The Fool/Beloved/Amber/Lord Golden because he is the most amazing character I've read of. He's intriguing, exciting, witty, and as the Fool he spent a lot of time mocking people, which is one of my favorite pastimes.

Who is your least favourite character and why?
My least favorite was Keffria from the Liveship Traders. She was such a pushover, I just wanted to grab her by the shoulders and shake her about!

If you could change one thing about the books, what would it be?
I wouldn't have had Nighteyes die. I miss him. Things might have gone really differently if he hadn't died though. Fitz might not have ended up with Molly.

Was it a cop out ending?
I think Fitz shouln't have ended up with Molly, because it seemed vaguely contrived. But otherwise, it wasn't. The parting of Fitz and the Fool was heartbreaking, yes, but maybe the characters weren't in a position where being together was quite possible at that point in time.

Know where we can find some good fanworks?

Know of some good websites we all might be interested in?
The Plenty.

Any last words?
I'm looking forward to many good times with this community. ^_^

Ok! Since the last one was fairly well-received and this place is still dead, I'm giving you another challenge!

This time the playground is all of the 9 books

all of you picks for all three questions have to be from amongst the villains

Now, I know that because of Hobb's fantastic way of writing, it's not always easy to tell who's really a villain and who's an antihero and whatnot so I'm leaving this to your conscience: If you feel the character is a villain, then you can pick her/him, but if your interpretation of the character differs significantly from the public opinion of the fandom (ie: if you think Straling or Hap or the Khuprus family are villains), please explain your pick.

Ok, as before, I'm going to go first to make my stupid complicated rules easier to understand because I like this game!

Fuck: The Pale Woman. Ok, so she's pretty much Evil Incarnate. But I've always had a huge thing for those "Bathe her and bring her to me" -megalomaniac magnificient basterd villains and PW is the first lady version of that type I've ever come accross. I also love characters that manage to turn others on even if said others hate them with a burning passion (lol Fitz). It's just hot. Also, yeah, white skin white hair UNF

Marry: Will! Ever since I had that stupid dream about him I've liked him more and more. Ok, it would bother me ever so slightly if my husband had some weird mind link with Regal (is that cheating? can I get annulment based on that?) and his being you know, a human puppet for someone other than me would suck, but anyway. Nobody's perfect. Also I find the idea of his lost eye strangely alluring. I get why everyone thinks he's creepy, I do too, but like Gollum-y cute creepy.

Kill: Kyle. I hate Kyle so much not even for what he did to Wintrow and Althea, but what he did to ME. Everytime I reread the LST books I'm lulled into a false sense of happiness during his early scenes with Keffria and I really really hope every time that he would turn out to be different. The biggest reason for this is that I desperately want a likeable Chalcedean character. Seriously. They cannot all be complete monsters. But Kyle, sorry, you die, you little shit.

Alright! You go!

And in the next one you get to pick the Fool! I promise!

Or snog marry avoid, whichever you prefer.

This place is so dead, it's making me sad so I'm just going to keep spamming.

Anyways, I've seen this funny game on other communities I'm a member off and decided to see if it'd work here.

First up is the Assassin trilogy:

Out of all the Farseers in the first three books of the RoE (Farseers by marriage count, basically, all the royalty is fair game)

pick one character you'd fuck/snog, one you'd want to marry and one you'd like to kill/avoid if you're more of a pacifist and explain briefly why you chose the way you chose.

I hope this picks up, I love reading people's answers to this kind of stuff.

My own picks:

Fuck: Kettricken. She sounds gorgeous and find her personality attractive. She's sweet but she also has hat feisty, aggressive side and I don't think she'd be a cold fish. Plus foreign accents=<3 In my head she sounds French which makes no sense but yeah.

Marry: I was going to say Verity, but nah. I could never be as understanding as Ketts was, my future spouse has to value me more that their job/duty/whatever and at least give some explanation and allow me to make my own decisions. So not him.
Instead, I'm going to pick Shrewd. I would make a better trophy wife! I'd take care of him and everything! And if my kid ever turned out to be like Regal I would take away all his toys, ground him for a year and force fish liver oil down his throat every morning like my mom did to me.
And I love Shrewd. I imagine he'd be fun to talk with (pre-sickness) and he sounds like a charming old man with a nice cunning side. Plus I'd be queen.

Kill: Fitz. No really, I'd just avoid him, after all, my husband of choice seems to like him for some reason. I've said this before, if I ever met someone like him in real life I'd just want to smack him in the face. I hate people who don't learn from their mistakes and people who pity themselves while pretending not to. And are dumb, blind and closed-minded. I'm pretty sure he'd hate me too.

Hey all,
Like many before me, I'm a long-time lurker of this community, mostly to fuel my obsession with the Fool. I love reading the comment threads and getting a new spin on events in the trilogies.

At the moment I'm not awake enough to do the newcomer's survey thing, but if 'fool's follower' doesn't suit you, you can call me Monica.
I just wanted to point out a connection which I made in the same not-awake state a little earlier. I was listening to 'Empty Apartment' by Ocean Avenue (edited - on the original post, I wrote Yellowcard - sorry for any confusion!) and it seemed to me really appropriate for Fitz and the Fool's relationship. I imagine a dramatic (and scarily detailed =p) montage in my head when I listen to the lyrics. Timeline-wise, it seems very right for their relationship between the Farseer and Tawny Man trilogies, the way they're indefinitely apart and how Fitz is nearly alone in his hut and mourning the loss of his relationship with Molly.

Lyrics can be found here: http://www.sing365.com/music/lyric.nsf/empty-apartment-lyrics-yellowcard/d7615f18fb11efc248256d530007be5c
or in a billion other places =p. I'd really like to hear what other people think of this concept.

Hokidokie.  So.  On the wonderful fan forum forums.theplenty.net/ (which I highly encourage y'all to join, or at least read), there is a massive discussion thread about the Fool.  One of the mini-discussions is about the Fool and apricots.  A few of the members noticed a great fondness for apricots in our dear Fool (apricot brandy, he asks for apricots and Fitz can only bring him plums, et cetera).  So naturally, being the intelligent and loyal readers they are, they tried to find connections.  There may have been apricots on an Elderling tapestry, says one reader!

Extremely mild spoilers for Farseer and Tawny Man trilogies within, nothing too bad....Collapse )

Hey guys, I figured that past the first comic, it would pretty soon be a mess if the posts stayed scattered on the community like this, so I've created a livejournal account for the releases of the Royal Assassin Project, afoolsmind.

You'll find all the releases there now. It'll also be easier to spread the news to other communities. (I'll try to do that in the following days) Since in the end, this is a relatively small community compared to Robin Hobb's lectorate. I guess more people must be interested in reading these comics?

You can only see the entries related to the releases if you're a friend, so I guess I'd advise all that are interested to become friends with the account…

That's all, just wanted to tell you. See you over there!

Ok, first of all, I wanted to ask if any Finnish people apart from myself come here anymore? Is anyone from Finland (or somewhere else, though thats usually sadly very unlikely) coming to Fincon 2011 in Turku? I'm going to post about it again closer to the con which is in July.

A few years ago Fincon had a Hobb fanmeeting, but I wasn't there and I reaaaaaaaaally want to meet up with some fans IRL.

And I'm going to be super-sad if no one recognises my costume XD (I got my grandma's old dress for my Elderling!Malta thing and it's beautifuuuuuuuul! im almost sad to have to tinker with it)

Second point. I've told you guys about my own strange RoE dreams before and I had another one last night. I was a random deckhand on the Vivacia around the time when all three Vestrit kids are on board and I was just sort of lounging around doing nothing when suddenly I realised that it was actually a movie/tv series about the books and I was a random extra. Then I realised that Althea was played by Ellen Page and Wintrow was Justin Bieber.

They do look alike though.

Anyways. What kind of dreams have you guys had? Any weird ones? Any sexy ones?
