Is there anybody out there?
Hey, so I'm a woman in the UK, a livejournal noob and I come in peace to this group in search of other Fitz/Fool shippers and general RoTE/Hobb fans to chat with. I'm aware that fanfiction celebrating this author and realm is forbidden...which naturally multiples the appeal somewhat, hah! However, I have found a handful on a certain site, hastily read them all and yet... I am not satisfied. The third instalment of the Fitz and The Fool Trilogy has now been shunted back a few months and so won't be here until 2017. I would write my own fanfic in the hope that sharing it would spark up the embers of conversation and connection in here but that is also forbidden. Anyway, what's up with this livejournal... just about every community I have peeked at seems inactive, and I'm not even sure I'm doing this right. Some groups seem to have been inactive for 11 years. A social network whizz I am not. I'd be grateful to anybody, ANYBODY out there, who could point me in the direction of other networks (except facebook...ew) where Fitz/Fool are alive and well, celebrated and shared in fanwork fairly regularly. In 'Fool's Errand', our Fitz goes to his bench at the edge of the cliff near his cabin by Forge and looks outward over the waves of the sea and reaches out and out and beyond...I've been doing a similar thing for months, online; questing out into cyberspace in search of another who'll be waiting, just waiting to reach back. But alas, it seems I just haven't got the skill...

I haven't read the new series, so I can't help you with that. Communities aren't very active any more, but personal journals are, so maybe you can find people through friending memes (see friend_memes, for example). I hope you get answers from people who have read the latest books. :-)

HI, nice to see messages in this old group!

Have you looked on tumblr? There's something of a community there - search for the appropriate tags on the site and lots of stuff comes up, even fanfic. I think RotE is the primary tag but all related names etc work. (I occassionally post fan art there, http://anaryawe.tumblr.com. You can PM me here or there if you want blog recs! )
I suspect that Robin has loosened her personal fanfiction policy over the years, of if she isn't, the tumblr folk just don't care /are too young to remember it.

I would love to direct you to active lj communities but even my personal livejournal isn't that active! There used to be a RotE fanfiction community in livejournal too but I'm not a member anymore and couldn't find it, so it's probably secret or deleted. Wonder if somebody here remembers it... You could try asking & participating in http://small-fandoms.livejournal.com/ & http://smallfandomfest.livejournal.com/ .

(And if there is still lurking somebody who's interested in raising the old debate about fanfiction, I recommend they read this post and it's sources about recent court ruling on fair use and transformative works aka fanfiction: link )

Hey there! I was so pleased to read your message and I spent about two hours gawking at your art last night. Your work really moved me, seriously; I don't even know where to start, I just got lost in it all.

And you're a fan of Amanda Palmer too (I've downloaded 'Art of Asking' but not finished reading it yet due to my major fool/fitz preoccupation). If I get enough time today I'll make a tumble account and start figuring out how it all works but if not I'll have time on Sunday for sure.

Your reply really made my night, thank you so much :)

Thank you very much, very much my pleasure! :...) I should make more robin hobb-themed things, they're so fun and intense to make.

I haven't been following the fandom for a while (I haven't read the latest book and I'm avoiding spoilers!) but on the top of my head here's some other artists you might enjoy:

Yeah I like Amanda! I listened the Dresden Dolls when I was a tiny teen and still dig her music. I don't much read her writings though, maybe I should!

Hey :)

I've added the first four folk you recommended but I couldn't get the fifth one to work. I'm gonna really enjoy looking at all the fanworks.

And Yes! You should do more RH-themed work, but I say this for completely selfish reasons of course. Your art is pretty intense to look at too it's fair to say.

Amanda Palmer's book is so far pretty excellent, her TED Talk on the same subject is awesome too if you get a chance. http://www.ted.com/talks/amanda_palmer_the_art_of_asking?language=en

I'm about to start making notes from Assassins Apprentice before I try out a test fic of my own. I'd do sketches or paintings if I were blessed with such talent, but frustratingly, I have no natural talent or learned skill at those.

I'll try not to spoil the Fitz and the Fool books for you. We've now got to wait until spring 2017 for part 3 of the series to be published, which is going to drive me batty...

Peace :)
