Hey, so I'm a woman in the UK, a livejournal noob and I come in peace to this group in search of other Fitz/Fool shippers and general RoTE/Hobb fans to chat with. I'm aware that fanfiction celebrating this author and realm is forbidden...which naturally multiples the appeal somewhat, hah! However, I have found a handful on a certain site, hastily read them all and yet... I am not satisfied. The third instalment of the Fitz and The Fool Trilogy has now been shunted back a few months and so won't be here until 2017. I would write my own fanfic in the hope that sharing it would spark up the embers of conversation and connection in here but that is also forbidden. Anyway, what's up with this livejournal... just about every community I have peeked at seems inactive, and I'm not even sure I'm doing this right. Some groups seem to have been inactive for 11 years. A social network whizz I am not. I'd be grateful to anybody, ANYBODY out there, who could point me in the direction of other networks (except facebook...ew) where Fitz/Fool are alive and well, celebrated and shared in fanwork fairly regularly. In 'Fool's Errand', our Fitz goes to his bench at the edge of the cliff near his cabin by Forge and looks outward over the waves of the sea and reaches out and out and beyond...I've been doing a similar thing for months, online; questing out into cyberspace in search of another who'll be waiting, just waiting to reach back. But alas, it seems I just haven't got the skill...

Hello all, joined livejournal to join this community. Hopefully it will be busier with the new series. NOTE THERE ARE FOOL'S ASSASSIN SPOILERS IN THIS INTRODUCTION - Not major, but enough to figure out some details.

What would you like to be called?
Pi is my name.

Where do you hail from?
Copenhagen DK and Lancaster UK until further notice.

What age are you?
22

Which is your favourite series?
Fitz and the Fool, I hope. For me this has been the most anticipated series of the 16 years I could read. Probably I am a bit of a sadist, for don't we all know our two lovebirds will be utterly agonized all over again?

And which is your favourite book?
I have to say Golden Fool or Fool's Fate because of the bittersweet moments and the heartwrenched aftertaste. Yes, I am still a sucker for angsty Fitz and lovely broken Beloved.

How did you find out about the books?
Continuous prodding from friends about 6 years back made me finally pick up Assassin's Apprentice and I haven't looked back since. I have not yet read RWC, though I have started several times, but after Fool's Assassin there's a lingering feeling of MORE! so might give it another shot. Has anyone here read them and recommend them?

What made you love the books?
The most realized characters of any world I have stumbled upon so far. Hobb makes them all more flawed than perfect and yet still you can't help but root for them all the way. She has a George R R Martin-esque way of keeping you on the edge, knowing she would abuse, antagonize and torture your favourite characters if the story demands it.

What's the most memorable part of the books for you, and why?
The most memorable parts of the books were the excruciating misunderstandings and arguments of Fitz and the Fool. The best parts of the books were the few moments of peace and love and joining when Fitz is able to look past his prejudices and simply love.

Which bits kept those pages turning and turning?
I think they turned themselves.

Who is your favourite pairing?
Fitz/Fool/Nighteyes. Fitz' longing for his nemesis and soulmate, Beloved, is boiled down so sweetly by Nighteyes and the 'Nighteyes'-side of Fitz: They are a whole and belong together.

Who is your favourite character and why?
The Fool. I think it would take 10 books and about 6000 pages to say why.

Who is your least favourite character and why?

>>FOOL'S ASSASSIN SPOILER<<
I have to say Shun. She seems the most 2D of the character set so far as well as slightly inconsistent by being a somewhat competent assassin and then after 50 pages changing to a completely defenseless girl. She may yet surprise. In terms of most hated character, I would say the Pale Woman and the Servants for what they made the Fool go through.

If you could change one thing about the books, what would it be?
I would be scared to change anything. There are so many hidden hints and nudges from Hobb which only appear on a second reading. Even lengthy passages with slow pace such as the traveling (and pretty much the entire of Fool's Assassin) may have hidden meanings and motives which aren't obvious on a first reading.

Was it a cop out ending?
Of Fool's Fate? I don't know. If it had been the ending, then yes, but it never seemed the ending to me. The ending is when Fitz and the Fool get their ever after in whatever form that will take.

Any last words?
I love nothing better than to discuss good books, especially my favourite books, so always feel free to write about this world or any other recommended world you know of. Also, wow, there is some amazing fan art on this site :)

Hello all
Rather new to all this but saw this group and it being the subject of one of if not my favourite series of books thought I'd join the community

What would you like to be called?
"oi you there" will suffice
Where do you hail from?
London England
What age are you?
25

Which is your favourite series?
The Farseer Trilogy but I have not had that much exposure to the other series despite trying to find them in my local book shops (the chase is better than the catch I know it would be easy to just order or download)
And which is your favourite book?
Assassins Aprentice
How did you find out about the books?
Stumbled on the Farseer trilogy and Tawny man Trilogy in a second hand store while on a weekly book hunt and they caught my eye, I'm thankful that they did
What made you love the books?
The slow introduction of the more fantastical ideas such as dragons and magic but also the lack of explanation for certain things makes you instantly believe/accept in the idea or statement, there is no need to over explain or talk down to the reader you either slowly learn and then go ah I see now or just accept that's it's true in that world so roll with it

What's the most memorable part of the books for you, and why?
The realisation of how deep patience's love for fitz truly goes a big what if factor is there for both of them had things worked out differently and she had gotten her way with regards to him being adopted by her
Was there any part of the books that you yawned your way through?
Strangely no even during some of the slower parts they were necessary to the book and were great for vivd imagery
Which bits kept those pages turning and turning?
The drive to find out the answer to every question that is posed (predominately by the fool) but knowing you want even get half

Who is your favourite pairing?
Kettricken and fitz, something is tangible between the two but not as throughly looked into so is more intriguing same for nighteyes and kettricken
Who is you favourite character and why?
Nighteyes he doesn't take rubbish and has some of the best lines
Who is your least favourite character and why?
Queen Desire she's a right horrible cow
If you could change one thing about the books, what would it be?
Given fitz a way to still see patience but without her trumpeting around the world but that would never of happened so....
Was it a cop out ending?
Hardly the main character finds peace but not the happy ending wins it all, he loses a lot and as we see later in the tawny man more than we realise
The ending with the added detail of going beyond the usual story book ending of achieving the quest and that's it was a stroke of genius giving us a bit more of an after story enough to show he is alive but his victory is not complete in many ways.

Know where we can find some good fanworks? Robbin Hobbs official Facebook recently shared a link
Know of some good websites we all might be interested in?
Not unless your into non league football

Any last words?
Roll on fitz and the fool series

This is my first post and the reason I joined LiveJournal, although I'm interested in the journal itself now.

What would you like to be called?
Nothing fancy, Supreme Ruler will suffice.

Where do you hail from?
I hail from England although I don't live there, unfortunately.
What age are you?
Old enough to be your Mum. Nah, not really, I'm the same age as Nettle is in the Fool's Errand.

Which is your favourite series?
[Long answer (click to open)]I'm not sure. I read the Rainwild Chronicles first of all and those were the best books I had ever read and I've heard most Hobb fans like their first series the most of all.
I loved the Liveship books as well because the story is told from so many perspectives which gives the book many sought after details while giving you an overview of the entire story, leaving you knowing exactly what's going on.
That's what I don't like so much about the Assassin and Fool books, they are told from only one perspective (from a character I don't particularly like) so you miss out on a lot of the story (which has to be retold and so slows down the book), you have to hear the details instead of experiencing them and also miss out on other main characters' thoughts and feelings.

If tl;dr, the short answer is I like the Ship and Rainwild books most, not because of the story but because of the style. BUT- I didn't really like Amber whereas the Fool/Lord Golden/Beloved is the character I love most in the world.

And which is your favourite book?
I haven't read all the books yet - although I'm getting there - but it's the first or second Rainwild book tbh.
How did you find out about the books?
Do you seriously want the honest answer? OKAY, fine. I read the blurb on EVERY SINGLE book in the sci fi section at Waterstones, until I found something that I liked and I'll tell you now - that sci fi section is BIG.
I'd actually been walking past Robin Hobb books for years but I didn't think they were my type of book because I thought Robin Hobb was a man and THAT made me think they were Terry Brooks or Terry Pratchett style books. Yes, my style of reasoning is unique.
What made you love the books?
The Fool. The style. The RofE universe. The creativity and detail that went into making those books, the way every character has a unique and realistic personality that is more than skin-deep.

What's the most memorable part of the books for you, and why?
The dragons and their abilities, their swirling eyes and iridescent scales, their telepathic communication and the way the people who live on the Rainwild river go scaly. Why? Because it's like nothing I've ever seen before.
Was there any part of the books that you yawned your way through?
The serpent parts. The parts where Fitz is recovering from a near-death experience - AGAIN. When Fitz is living his quiet life and nothing is happening. The parts were Fitz is reflecting on past failures, regrets and stuff. Anything that Fitz goes on and on about really.
Which bits kept those pages turning and turning?
Learning more about that elusive and mysterious White Prophet. The funny parts (I thought Nighteyes and Jek were funny). The parts where Althea is in danger (don't ask me why, she just gets into more interesting danger than most). ;D

Who is your favourite pairing?
Um... Hard one. Althea and Brashen. Malta and Reyn. Shrewd and the Fool. Rurisk and Kettricken. Etta and Wintrow. Thymara and Sintara. Leftrin and Alise. Amber and Jek.
Who is you favourite character and why?
The question is not which character but which role. The Fool is mocking and playful. Amber is calm and artistic. Lord Golden is extravagant, witty and outrageously aristocratic. Beloved (in my opinion this is his/her most natural self) is kind, insecure and unconditionally loving. I like Beloved and the Lord most.
Who is your least favourite character and why?
*sigh* I don't hate any character but there are characters I don't like. Too many to list. Regal the most, probably and his henchmen. Then Kyle and Kennit. Serilla. I haven't read about the Pale Woman yet but I think she tortures Beloved so she will probably be up with Regal when I get to her.
If you could change one thing about the books, what would it be?
I would love the Fitz books to be narrated by Beloved, at least in part. And maybe some other characters. Different perspectives anyway.
Was it a cop out ending?
What was?
The Farseer trilogy: kinda yes, because I wanted Fitz to come back and surprise everyone not mope around on his own. The Liveship trilogy: def. NO, the ending was amazing and all the loose ends were nicely tied up. As for Fool and Rainwild trilogies, I haven't finished either of the last books.

Know where we can find some good fanworks?
No, I've never thought of looking for any.
Know of some good websites we all might be interested in?
Not off the top of my head.

Any last words?
I'm REALLY, REALLY sorry for writing so much, I don't mean to spam, I just got carried away.

I’ve been a lurker for a while, and just got LJ so I could join in on the Hobb discussions, even though it seems a bit quiet here these days.

What would you like to be called?
londonlassie :)

Where do you hail from?
Rainy old England

What age are you?
17
Which is your favourite series?
Liveships!

And which is your favourite book?
Oh blimey, I don’t know. Probably Mad Ship.

How did you find out about the books?
I spent about three weeks when I was twelve or thirteen whining to my mother about having nothing to read, until eventually she threw Ship Of Magic at me. I read the first page and was hooked.

What made you love the books?
Kennit. He was the first Hobb character I ever came across, and he’s still my favourite character now, from any author. I don't condone a lot of the things he did, but I liked him anyway.

In Farseer, it was Nighteyes and the Fool.

What's the most memorable part of the books for you, and why?
Probably the negotiations between the pirates and the Satrap. I spent the whole Liveships series rooting for Kennit, and I was so happy when he finally got what he wanted, especially when Kennit was just asking for everything under the sun and all the bratty Satrap could do was sit there and sulk while Malta tried to save his pride.

Was there any part of the books that you yawned your way through?
The Farseer Trilogy. I didn’t enjoy it at all, and I’ve pretty much skipped it on subsequent rereads, because I just struggle through it and that's no fun. Also, I haven’t read the serpent-POV parts of Liveships since my first read, because while I can see that they are essential to the storyline, they're dull and I didn't enjoy them.

Which bits kept those pages turning and turning?
The Kennit parts, the Wintrow parts, the Althea parts, the Paragon parts…also anything with the Fool in it.

Who is your favourite pairing?
None of my favourite pairings were completely cannon.

*coughKennit/Wintrowcough* even though it makes me feel guilty because Wintrow's so young. And Kennit/Sorcor for some weird reason. Sorcor puts up with Kennit's rubbish, and they're about as close as Kennit is close to anyone, and he lets Sorcor talk back at him, so my dreadful mind just had to slash them.

Also, Fitz/Fool even though I don’t like Fitz.

But canon...Althea and Brashen. I did want Althea to get together with Kennit, up until Ship Of Destiny, when that pairing actually happened. It was just so opposite to how I imagined them getting together, and after that I just couldn't imagine her doing anything but hating his guts, perfectly justifiably, of course.

Who is your favourite character and why?
Kennit. It’s probably obvious from the rest of the post. He is the best-written character I’ve ever come across, ever. Plus I seem to have a thing for emotionally-damaged characters – Paragon was one of my favourites, too – and Kennit’s backstory made me spend the whole three novels wanting to hug him and make it all better. Plus he was funny, I loved watching him get sarcastic with people, and he was just so easy to pair up with characters he shouldn’t have been with *ahemWintrowahem*. Which was all for the better.

Who is your least favourite character and why?
Probably gonna get some flack for this, but Fitz. He whined all the time, and he was so stupid in terms of the decisions he made, and there was always something wrong with him, and I just didn't link with him on the aw, you poor thing level like I did with Kennit. He wasn't funny either. And he spent way too much time pining after Molly, who I didn’t like either.

In Liveships, it was Igrot. We never actually met him, but I spent the whole time wanting to stab him with a fork for what he put Kennit through.

Or Kyle. But Kyle was a love-to-hate character for me, I didn’t mind reading about him. I just disliked him as a person.

If you could change one thing about the books, what would it be?
I’d stop Kennit dying. That honestly made me cry. I’d just have him make it up with Paragon instead. Although that would probably be far less dramatic and climatic than Her Hobbness’ ending.

Was it a cop out ending?
I think so. I wanted Fitz to end up with the Fool. I really didn’t like Molly in any of the books, but I didn’t like Fitz either, so I guess they go well together. I just wanted the Fool to be happy, and it seemed like him disappearing conveniently so Molly and Fitz could get together was just…bleugh. No.

Know where we can find some good fanworks?
Um, no sorry.

Know of some good websites we all might be interested in?
DeviantArt has a decent collection of Hobb art, and there’s thePlenty.net

Any last words?

I feel like I've got to breathe life into this community!
Let me do so by filling out this thing a ma bob

What would you like to be called?
I don't know? My name is Stan, let's just use that.
Where do you hail from?
USA
What age are you?
16 (17 soon!)

Which is your favourite series?
Wow, that's a tough question. uhhh, maybe the first.
And which is your favourite book?
Probably Fool's Errand. I love Fitz's reunion with Beloved and the sad parts about Nighteyes death. Also Prince Dutiful.
How did you find out about the books?
My sister lent me her copy of Assassin's Apprentice and I became hooked.
What made you love the books?
In the first book it was the assassin training stuff that drew me in but I fell in love with the world and characters.

What's the most memorable part of the books for you, and why?
Most everything dealing with Old Blood and the White Prophet religion are parts that I really savored. I'd also say the funny parts with Nighteyes.
Was there any part of the books that you yawned your way through?
In Fool's Fate when they're on the ship to the Out Islands. Dx I'd also say many of the parts where Fitz has his little soliloquies about Molly or goes on an outing with her. In the Liveship series, I pretty much skimmed/skipped the serpent POV parts.
Which bits kept those pages turning and turning?
Assassin training, Old Blood, White Prophets (religions and cults fascinate me), derp idk

Who is your favourite pairing?
Fitz/Fool is the obvious one. (Chivalry/Burrich?) I'd also say I like Dutiful/Civil and uhhh really nothing from Liveship (Kennit/Wintrow cries)
Who is you favourite character and why?
Whoa what how can I even choose... Nighteyes, Will, Dutiful, Civil
Who is your lea
st favourite character and why?
Molly and Nettle. I just do not like their characters at all.
If you could change one thing about the books, what would it be?
Is the ending too obvious an answer? I guess I'd also say the part in Royal Assassin it is I think? where Fitz is running an errand and going to the market and comes upon a couple of Mountain traders and sees his mother but Molly distracts him. I really really really would have loved for him to have more of an interaction with her.
Was it a cop out ending?
Yes, I don't think Molly would have accepted Ftiz back so easily, especially right after the death of Burrich.

Know where we can find some good fanworks?
No, but I do draw fanart and may have a fic in the making.
Know of some good websites we all might be interested in?
Nope.

Any last words?

I've been lurking for over a year but I guess it's time someone posted something! Also, does anyone else think Queen Constance was Witted?
